Beaches in Santorini That Are Trending Amongst Our Guests
Monolithos for a Sunrise Swim
Starting your day with a sunrise swim definitely sets the tone for what’s to come. Monolithos Beach is that long stretch of sand you can spot from our Caveland rooftop. It’s just a 5-minute drive or about a 35-minute walk away. Parking is easy along the beach, and once there, you can watch the sunrise either seated in the black sand or while swimming in the sea. It’s one of the beaches in Santorini that’s perfect for an early start.
Caldera Bay for a Sunset Swim
Most Santorini maps don’t even mark this well-preserved secret gem. Caldera Bay is one of the rare beaches in Santorini where you can actually drive down to the caldera — the volcanic “pot” of the island — and enjoy a swim. The small beach is tucked under steep volcanic walls, offering a dramatic and intimate setting for your sunset dip. Just keep an eye out for the occasional ferry passing in the distance — they can stir up some decent-sized waves.
White Beach for Off-the-Beaten-Path Vibes
Every Greek island has those special beaches only accessible by boat — and White Beach is one of them. Named after the stunning white rock formations surrounding it, this beach is best visited during a catamaran tour. Another option is to take a water taxi from Akrotiri. Just be prepared: you’ll be disembarking directly into the sea, which can reach waist height — so come ready in your swimsuit! While there are a few sunbeds for rent, you can also just enjoy a quick swim before heading back. White Beach is one of the more secluded beaches in Santorini, perfect for a peaceful escape.
Vlychada Beach for Unspoiled Nature
Ask a local where they go for a swim, and chances are, they’ll say Vlychada. This unspoiled beach is framed by striking sand formations and stretches of black sand. After the initial rows of sunbeds, you’ll find endless open beach, making it feel wild and untouched. In late summer, you can even catch part of the sunset from here. It’s a great option if you’ve rented a car and want to combine a beach day with fresh seafood at a local Psaraki taverna — all without depending on Santorini’s limited bus connections. Vlychada offers a more natural take on the beaches in Santorini.
Perissa for Long Stretches of Sand and Variety
Looking for a beach club vibe? Then Perissa Beach is your go-to. This well-known beach begins under the hill that houses Ancient Thira and stretches for several kilometres down to the Perivolos area. One of the most versatile beaches in Santorini, Perissa caters to every taste and budget. You’ll find relaxed beach shacks like Tranquilo, lively party spots like Wet, and upscale beach restaurants like Seaside or 41. Because the entire beach isn’t lined with sunbeds, you can always find a free patch of sand for your towel and umbrella. We especially recommend the Perivolos end on days with northern winds. Big plus — there’s a direct bus from our village of Karterados.
